Spanish daily AS is reporting that Atletico Madrid are stepping up their efforts to sign Malaga star Jeremy Toulalan.
Los Colchoneros are short of options in the centre of the park after Emre Belezoglu was allowed to return to Fenerbahce, and the club officials are eager to address the issue in the summer transfer window.
According to AS, Vicente Calderon outfit have made Malaga’s Jeremy Toulalan their number one target.
The player’s agent confirmed in January that both Atletico and Valencia were showing interest in his client, but los Colchoneros appear to be leading the race at the moment.
Toulalan, 29, has a contract until June 2015 at La Rosaleda, with €30 million release clause inserted in his deal.
However, with Malaga in serious financial problems and the player himself looking to leave the club in the summer, it is highly unlikely los Boquerones would be able to reject a lucrative offer from Atletico.
