Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has revealed defender Kolo Toure will face an internal hearing for his failed a drugs test.
The 30-year-old blamed the failed test in March on a slimming tablet he had taken, but was handed a six-month ban from the game by the Football Association.
Toure served his ban and has returned to action for City, but Mancini has revealed that the experienced former Arsenal centre-back could face a further internal sanction: “I think so, yes,” Mancini told reporters on Friday.
Argentine striker Carlos Tevez has been subjected to the club’s internal disciplinary procedures for his alleged refusal to come on in City’s Champions League loss to Bayern Munich in September, but Mancini said the situations were not the same.
“I think Kolo (Toure) is a different situation (to Carlos Tevez). It was a mistake – a totally different situation,” he said.
“In the other case (Tevez) I think that every player should have good behaviour, always.”
Toure is looking to fight himself back into first-team contention, having appeared four times for league-leading City since his ban finished.
