Toure happy to leave leaderless Gunners

Defender Kolo Toure insisted Sunday he made the right decision in swapping Arsenal for Manchester City because his former club have lost too many big names.

The Ivorian believes the failure to replace a host of star players has made the club a less attractive proposition than Mark Hughes’ City.

The 28-year-old said: “I came to Man City because when you look at Arsenal you see all the great players have left the club and are now in the past.

“Look at what has happened there. Thierry Henry has gone, Patrick Vieira has gone, Ray Parlour has gone.

“These were the players that brought success to Arsenal and I believed it was right at this stage of my career to also move on.

“We lost too many leaders at Arsenal. When we were winning the league title the spirit was fantastic, we were like a band of brothers.”

Toure also defended City’s spending policy, which has seen them criticised in some quarters for distorting the market.

“The best teams are at the top only because they have the best players and to get those players you have to spend a lot of money,” he said.

“You can’t be successful in football without money. This is the football business. City have a project to build a big team and so it is natural it is going to cost money.”

not too worried over here…and not suprised, wenger always holds his cards close. gallas is better than toure and they didnt get along, so thats ok, and adebayor seemed to not get anything going with fans on his back, so those 2 kind of had to be done. if we stay healthy, i could see us going all the way for sure.
last season rvp had 11 goals, 11 assists in 28 matches, thats more output than cristiano (18 goals, 6 assists in 33 matches), if he is healthy all season with fabregas and arshavin, we’re golden, as long as the D hold it together a bit better than last season…

and did u see city lose to the rangers that arsenal beat 3-0, i know, its just freindlies, but its still nice to see! haha

That’s right Brad, I am even more surprise at what Arsenal is doing right now, being the fan of the club, it’s really worrisome selling some of our key players, not just selling but to our direct threat, that doesn’t show any sense. But one thing I am happy about is that, money doesn’t guarantee success, we are going to compete with what we have and succeed. I believe we will make it and above all, I trust Wenger bcos he is going to pull a surprise this season and also he is going to sign one or two more players b4 the transfer window closes.

    GOODLUCK THE GUNNERS!!!

I am a pure ManU fan, and I am disgusted with my clubs Manchester derby rival’s frenzy. Money does help, but not always. It hasnt worked for the money bags ManC. yet, and lets hope it doesnt start workin for them and Real Madrid.

As for Arsenal. I am a bit surprised at what they are doing right now. They are sellin, which is good for gettin money to bring in more players, but if they keep doin it at this rate, Van Persie and Fabregas and all of their other top level players will be gone and ManC may be more of a threat to Arsenal- frankly the whole big four- than John Gunner would like to admit.

This is how football players always say, when they leave a club, they turn their back on that club and then slam them, criticized them to the least you expect from them. The success of any doesn’t depend on one player, but it is a collective efforts of all the players in the club, so Arsenal failed to win a trophy for five seasons because the best of the players were not good enough.

So Toure needs not criticize Arsenal because he has left Arsenal, rather what he should do is to face the challenge at Man City and then try to earn them something reasonably, because I believe, even with all these signings, they are not better than Arsenal, and therefore they are not going to be a threat to Arsenal as people are thinking.
