Yaya Toure believes Manchester City’s taste of silverware last campaign will be the English Premier League club’s catalyst for more success.

Toure scored the winning goal in the 2011 FA Cup final against Stoke City on May 14, and believes more trophies will help people to alter their perceptions of the Eastlands club.

“I think we are here to change the image of the club,” he said.

“My target and my ambition is for people to talk about City with more respect. That’s why I am here. I want to work hard and improve every year and get better and better.”

“It’s a new era for the club. We are taking a new step. I think it’s fantastic. We need to work hard and now the FA Cup is past, we have to write a new story for the club. We are winning things, which is amazing.”

“People are starting to enjoy (our football), the fans of City are starting to be happy, starting to get confidence about the club. I think it’s very, very important.”

City have bolstered their defence with the signing of Arsenal full-back Gael Clichy and 20-year-old Montenegro defender Stefan Savic from FK Partizan, but it in attack that former Barcelona midfielder Toure wants to keep contributing.

“Scoring the (FA Cup) semi-final (against Manchester United) and final goals for me was amazing,” he said.

“It was very important – two of the most important goals of my career. I was very happy because that’s why I came to Manchester City, to make that story to make the club grow, year after year.”
