Townsend pens new Spurs deal

Andros Townsend has agreed a new bumper pay deal with Tottenham Hotspur, the Mail Online understands.

The midfielder, who capped a man-of-the-match performance on his England debut with a stunning goal in the 4-1 win over Montenegro on Friday evening, has seen his wages almost triple at White Hart Lane, just two years after almost being sold to Millwall for £500,000.

The 22 year old has been loaned to no less than nine clubs over the past four-and-a-half years, but is now a big part of manager Andre Villas Boas plans, having appeared in all but one of Spurs’ league games so far this season.

He picked up a knock in the match at Wembley four days ago, but Roy Hodgson is confident he will be fit in time to feature in this evening’s crucial tie with Poland, and can be backed at 10/3 to score at any time in the game.
