Competition: EFL Trophy
Market: Tranmere Rovers win
Odds: 6/5 @ 888sport
Two sides who will be looking to extend on their EFL Trophy adventure in midweek, Tranmere will welcome Harrogate to Prenton Park on Tuesday night.
Starting with the hosts, after landing a play-off spot last season, there is no doubt that Tranmere have their sights set on going one step further this time around. Last seen picking up a 1-0 win against Leyton Orient on home soil, Micky Mellon’s men now find themselves sat just a single point adrift of finding a route into the automatic promotion spots. Looking to lay down another marker on Tuesday night when they turn their attention back to EFL Trophy duties, the Merseyside-based outfit have won each of their last three outings on the spin. Likewise, managing to keep a clean sheet in each of those three consecutive victories, it should be noted that Tranmere have lost just one of their last six contests, a run that stems back to November 13th. It’s also worth highlighting, the midweek hosts have won three of their last four appearances at Prenton Park.
As for the visitors, while Tranmere might be enjoying a recent purple patch, the same cannot be said for a struggling Harrogate side. Last seen over the weekend getting hit with a 1-0 loss away at promotion contenders Sutton, Simon Weaver’s men have found themselves come tumbling down the League Two standings. In fact, including a thumping 4-1 defeat against Forest Green on home soil earlier in the month, the Sulphurites have lost each of their last three outings. Showing some extended issues at the back and without a clean sheet to their name over the past month, Harrogate should also be worried by their last trip to Prenton Park. Suffering an action-packed 3-2 loss when they made the trip to Merseyside back in January, we’re backing a similar home victory on Tuesday night.
