Transfers and transfer rumours part two

The transfer window has now been open for eleven days and it really has been a slow one so far.

It seems that not many teams are prepared to pay big money for players in January.

Nevertheless there will be some movement in the market before the window shuts next month.

Ba

One of the most in-demand players in the Premier League is Newcastle’s Demba Ba. The Senegalese striker has scored 15 goals in the top flight this season after arriving on Tyneside on a free transfer from West Ham in the summer.

The striker has a reported £10million release clause in his Magpies contract. The latest club to be linked with a move for the 26 year-old is champions Manchester United. The Red Devils are believed to have contacted his agent but they haven’t actually made a bid for the star.

According to reports though Manchester United are likely to face stiff opposition for the striker from French giants PSG. The oil-rich club are looking to strengthen their squad to try to cement their place at the top of the Ligue One table.

Ba has claimed to be happy at Newcastle but I think if the likes of United or PSG came along then a move would be hard to turn down.

Samba

Blackburn defender Christopher Samba is another African star who has made a name for himself in the Premier League. The giant Congolese defender has been outstanding at the heart of Blackburn’s defence for a long time and it looks like he could finally move on in January.

It’s no secret that Tottenham are interested in signing another centre-back and it looks like it could be Samba. Although new QPR boss Mark Hughes will be given money to spend and is also believed to be interested in signing Samba.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp believes they would be favourites to sign the centre-back if they were up against QPR and I’d have to agree. The question is who will be prepared to meet his believed asking price of £8million?

Cahill

Gary Cahill’s move to Chelsea from Bolton seems to have became a bit of a saga. The two clubs agreed a fee in the region of £5million but it seems the move hit a stumbling block when it came to Cahill’s personal terms.

The player is believed to be cautious about his move to Chelsea because he doesn’t believe he would guaranteed first team football at Stamford Bridge. Cahill’s contract at Bolton expires in the summer and he could then pick which club he wants to join.

However it seems that Chelsea is likely to offer Cahill improved terms and a promise that he will get regular first team football ahead of this years European Championships.

Remy

Tottenham are believed to be interested in Marseille striker Loic Remy. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is looking to add a striker to his squad and he is currently looking at the previously mentioned Demba Ba and Frenchman Remy.

The 25 year-old is highly-rated and valued at £20million by his club. Tottenham are still in with a chance of claiming the Premier League title and are looking to add that extra bit of firepower to their attack.
Quiet

The transfer market has been quiet so far this January. Thierry Henry moved to Arsenal on a short-term loan deal from MLS side New York Redbulls. American international Landon Donovan has also signed a similar deal at Everton with the attacking midfielder returning to Merseyside for a second loan stint from another MLS side LA Galaxy.

There is likely to be more movement when it gets closer to the transfer window shutting but for now we will have to be content with rumours and whispers to keep us all entertained.

Who will be the big movers in the winter transfer window?
