(GSM) – Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni claims he has snubbed the chance to work at Celtic. The Scottish Premier League runners-up have been linked with several faces who could fill their managerial vacancy.

The former Italy manager has been linked with an advisory role at Parkhead but remains committed to the Republic of Ireland project.

Neil Lennon is the favorite runner for the job after he led the club to eight consecutive Clydesdale Bank Premier League wins after Tony Mowbray was sacked.

Meanwhile Trapattoni is committed to the Ireland cause and wants to lead the team to Euro 2012 after their World Cup disappointment following a controversial exit against France last year.

The 71-year-old said: “It was not the Celtic chairman, but someone close to him, close to the club, a former player, who approached me three to four months ago and asked would I be interested in a position.

“But I say no, I am with Ireland. I also had two or three teams ask me in Italy, and two English teams.

“I told them all the same answer – that I am with Ireland.”

Earlier this year, Trapattoni also turned-down an approach from Juventus.
