Juventus’s French striker David Trezeguet is just three goals away from equalling the legendary Omar Sivori’s total of 167 career goals for Juventus, following his latest striker against Bologna in Serie A.
“It would be a great honour for me to get there,” said 31-year-old marksman.
“I never saw him play but I know from what I have been told that he is a legend here and to be at that level would be very satisfying for me.”
However, Trezeguet’s strike was not enough to earn a victory for his Turin club, which would have fired Juve above Sampdoria and champions Inter to the top of the table.
A stoppage-time equaliser from Brazilian forward Adailton earned Bologna a point in the 1-1 draw played out.
Juve coach Ciro Ferrara took the blame.
He said: “It was my fault. I persisted with too many players who are short of form right now.â€Â
Sivori, an inside-forward who starred for Argentina and then Italy in the late 1950s and early 1960s, won three league titles with Juventus and was voted 1961 European Footballer of the Year.
He formed a notable attacking partnership with Welshman John Charles, the so-called ‘Gentle Giant.’
