Thomas Tuchel, the recently appointed Chelsea manager, has identified Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule and Dayot Upamecano of RB Leipzig as his two top priority targets for the upcoming summer, according to the Mirror.
The former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain boss will be working with the squad he has inherited from his predecessor, Frank Lampard, having decided against making any signings in January, but it seems he is already thinking about next season and planning changes.
The emphasis, at this point, is to find a suitable replacement for Thiago Silva. The Brazilian defender’s experience has helped the Blues a lot this term, but he will be turning 37 soon and it’s only natural for the club to be thinking about identifying a potential successor.
It will be interesting to see if Bayern agree to sell another defender at the end of the season, given that they’re already set to lose the services of David Alaba for free, but they will surely bear in mind that Sule will be entering the final year of his contract.
As for Upamecano, there are already a large number of potential suitors for the 22-year-old, including the likes of Bayern, Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid.
