FC Twente successfully defended their lead in the Dutch league, beating Ajax 1-0 in Sunday’s top clash. PSV cruised to a comfortable win at ADO Den Haag, while AZ held Feyenoord to a 1-1 draw.

Ajax needed a win to close the gap with Twente, but the Amsterdam outfit wasn’t able to impress in the city of Enschede.

Instead, it was Costa Rican Bryan Ruiz to score the only goal of the match in the second minute after the break.

Twente keep their two-points lead over PSV, who crushed ADO Den Haag 1-5 with no less than four goals from Swedish striker Ola Toivonen.

Toivonen found the target on three occasions in the first half, followed by a fourth goal from Otman Bakkal six minutes into the second.

Karim Soltani got one back for the hosts in minute 70 but Toivonen had the final say, 1-5 in the 73rd minute.

It could have been much worse for ADO, who played the last half hour with just nine men on the pitch following a red card to Lex Immers. Ricky van den Bergh had already been sent off in the first half.

AZ Alkmaar held Feyenoord to a 1-1 draw, with the visiting side probably deserving more than just one point. The Rotterdam outfit scored the opener through Sekou Cisse in the fifth minute, but Brett Holman levelled ten minutes into the second half.
