(GSM) – Twente are hoping Steve McClaren will remain with the club after guiding the Eredivisie outfit to their maiden league title.
With the new found success, McClaren is being linked with a number of different jobs across Europe.
While, a move back to the Premier League has been mooted, Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg are also linked with the former England coach.
But club chief Munsterman remains hopeful that McClaren will remain and continue his work in Enschede.
“Steve is an idol in Holland, everyone likes him and he is every inch a gentleman, he is a wise man,” Munsterman told Sky Sports News.
Asked what his reaction would be if McClaren was approached by other clubs, he said: “Stay away, please.
“You have bus drivers – Steven is now one of our bus drivers and we are waiting to see what he is doing.
“Like at Arsenal, Man United, Liverpool – we want him to stay for a long time because he did his job in Enschede, but we expect him to do that – we saw that at Middlesbrough.”
Wolfsburg are now said to be considering a move for McClaren, after Gerard Houllier reportedly ruled himself out of the running for their vacancy.
General manager Dieter Hoeness hinted a decision could be made this week but insisted they would not be rushed into an appointment.
“If it’s Friday, Saturday or Sunday, we don’t care. Only when everything is cleanly concluded will we make the name known,” Hoeness said in Bild.
