Eredivisie club Twente have confirmed they have dismissed head coach Co Adriaanse with immediate effect.
The 64-year-old Adriaanse was named Twente coach at the start of the 2011-12 campaign and has guided the Enschede side to third place in the Eredivisie table, the round of 32 in the Europa League, as well as winning the Johan Cruyff Shield.
However, the flamboyant coach has had a troublesome relationship with Twente president Joop Munsterman ever since the start of his spell at the Grolsch Veste and the club have now decided to let go of Adriaanse.
Assistant coaches Boudewijn Pahlplatz, Alfred Schreuder and Youri Mulder will replace Adriaanse until Twente find a permanent replacement.
It is believed that the club have already reached an agreement with former head coach McClaren to succeed Adriaanse until the end of the season, but they have yet to confirm the Englishman’s appointment.
McClaren previously led Twente in 2009-10 and guided the club to the only Eredivisie title in their history.
