(GSM) – The team bus carrying Twente coach Steve McClaren and the squad came under attack prior to the side’s 1-0 defeat against AZ Alkmaar.
The bus was pelted with stones during the bombardment on Tuesday which caused damage to the side and rear of the vehicle.
While there have been no injuries, the Dutch police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Twente chairman Jupp Munsterman said: “I cannot believe this has happened. How low can you get?”
He added: “If the stone comes through the windscreen and hits you while travelling, what then?”
But former England boss, McClaren, was certain that the attack did not have any effect on the outcome of the match which leaves his side four points clear of rivals Ajax at the top of the table.
The 48-year-old said: “That had no impact on our game.”
McClaren has impressed during his managerial spell in the Netherlands, helping Twente finish second in his first season.
And he is on course to win the title as the campaign reaches its climax.
“We missed an opportunity but we still have it in our own hands,” he added ahead of Sunday’s clash with Feyenoord.
“The reaction of the team is very important. We must now win the last two games and go for it.”
