Competition: Irish First Division
Market: UC Dublin win
Odds: 1/2 @ 888sport
Smelling what should be a golden chance on Friday night, UC Dublin will welcome Cobh Ramblers to the UCD Bowl when this weekend’s fixtures open up.
Starting with the hosts, last seen making a return to winning ways with what was an action-packed display, UC should still find the mood in their camp at a real high. Immediately bouncing back from that defeat away at runaway leaders Shelbourne last month, the Dublin-based outfit came from behind as they secured a last-gasp 3-2 victory against fellow promotion chasers Athlone on their travels. Tasting defeat just once since opening the 2021 campaign, Head Coach Andrew Myler has also seen his squad once again gain a reputation for their continued success in the final third. Already managing to land themselves a stunning 6-0 romp when they made the trip to Wexford when drawing a close to April, Friday’s hosts should also be boosted by their rampant record against The Ramblers. Including a 4-0 win when the two sides faced off in April, UC have won each of their last three meetings against this weekend’s guests by an aggregate score of 11-0.
As for the visitors, while UC might find themselves battling it out at the top of the First Division table, Cobh Ramblers are a side still firmly looking over their shoulder at the drop zone. Just about managing to bring an end to what was a nightmare run of form by snatching a 1-0 win against fellow strugglers Cork City last time out, that result at St. Colman’s Park brought an end to Cobh’s four-match losing run. However, facing what should be a hugely overwhelming test when they make the trip to the promotion dreamers on Friday night, Head Coach Stuart Ashton will have a headache over his side’s recent issues on the road. Last seen on their travels getting hit with back-to-back defeats away at Athlone Town and Cabinteely, we’re backing what should be another long night’s work for Cobh Ramblers this week.
