Defending European champions FC Barcelona will host Chelsea at the Camp Nou on Tuesday, April 24, with the Catalans down 1-0 on aggregate after being stymied by the Blues at Stamford Bridge last week.
Pep Guardiola’s side are coming off a disappointing 2-1 home loss to bitter rivals Real Madrid in La Liga, and have everything to play for on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, Chelsea drew 0-0 with Arsenal at the weekend, and still have an outside chance of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
With that said, Roberto Di Matteo will surely prioritize the UEFA Champions League over the Premier League. Well, he should if he wants to retain his position as Chelsea boss for next season.
After all, we all know how much Roman Abramovich wants to win the Champions League.
Now then, which of these clubs has their name written in the stars?
This segment will answer this very question as well as many others.
Champions League Betting Odds: FC Barcelona v Chelsea
FC Barcelona (2/11) v Chelsea (10/1); Draw (11/2)
Bet of the Day
Tuesday’s bet of the day is Barcelona to defeat Chelsea 3-0 at the Camp Nou, paying 7/1 odds.
Preview: FC Barcelona v Chelsea
Although Barca look destined to concede the La Liga title to Real Madrid in 2011-12 after Los Blancos snapped Barcelona’s home unbeaten streak at 54 games on Saturday, the Catalans are still one of the most feared football clubs in the world.
However, with all due respect, Chelsea are not Real Madrid. In fact, it’s not even close to be perfectly honest.
Madrid are arguably the best counter-attacking football club in the world, while Chelsea have left a lot to be desired on the counter this season.
If Chelsea are to advance to the Champions League final, they will need to make the most of their goal-scoring chances at the Camp Nou on Tuesday.
That means Didier Drogba will need to turn in another man-of-the-match performance for Roberto Di Matteo’s side.
I expect Chelsea to sit back and let Barcelona pass the ball in the center of the pitch, much like Real Madrid did on Saturday.
If the Blues can score early on from a set-piece situation or a counter-attack, I may fancy their chances. But if they don’t, expect Barcelona to boss the game and reach the Champions League yet again.
Who could have predicted that Chelsea would be one result away from reaching the Champions League final?
I’ll admit that I wrote the Blues off after their 3-1 defeat to Napoli in the Round of 16 on Tuesday, February 21. We all makes mistakes, right?
Prediction: FC Barcelona v Chelsea
Barcelona get the result that their supporters crave, 3-0 Catalans.
