(GSM) – PSV are the sole leaders in Europa League Group I after beating Debrecen 1-2 in Hungary, while Sampdoria suffered a surprising 2-1 defeat at Ukraine’s Metalist.
Debrecen initially gave PSV something to worry about as the Hungarians scored an opening goal through Mirsad Mijadinoski in the 35th minute.
But Orlando Engelaar leveled just five minutes later and a cross from Jonathan Reis was completely misjudged by Debrecen’s goalkeeper in the 66th minute, allowing the ball to roll in, 1-2.
Things went according to plan for Sampdoria when Vladimir Koman opened the scoring for the Italians after 32 minutes.
Taison restored the balance in the 38th minute however and even though the scorer ended up being sent off in the 56th, the win would go Metalist’s way as Cleiton Xavier netted for 2-1 in minute 73.
With seven points from three games, PSV lead the group ahead of Metalist with six. Sampdoria are now third with four points, and things are looking grim for Debrecen who have no points.
