Umaro Embalo’s switch to RB Leipzig falls through

German newspaper Bild has learned that Benfica wonderkid Umaro Embalo will not be joining RB Leipzig after all.

The transfer seemed a certainty after the two clubs had agreed on a transfer fee of €15 million plus bonuses, and the player accepted a five-year contract offer.

But, despite spending last five days in Leipzig, Embalo was forced to return to Portugal as the transfer fell through.

Namely, the Bundesliga outfit were not prepared to meet the demands of the player’s family and agents, and eventually decided to end the talks.

This means that Embalo is unlikely to be moving clubs in the January window in spite of the heavy interest in his services from top European clubs.
