Samuel Umtiti has had a nightmare of a season at Barcelona, mostly due to a knee injury which kept him out for a long time. Clement Lenglet properly stepped up in his absence, and now the Frenchman has lost his place in the team, which in turn led to speculations about a possible departure from the Camp Nou being on the cards for him.
A number of clubs have been linked with the World Cup winner, and the most concrete of interests apparently came from Juventus. According to Sport (who quote RAI in their report), the Serie A champions have accepted the “fact” that they’ve lost out on Matthijs de Ligt of Ajax who is set to join Barcelona, and they wanted to see if they can take Umtiti, who is likely to play even less when the young Dutchman arrives, as an alternative option.
However, the 25-year-old isn’t interested in joining Juventus or leaving Barcelona at all at the moment, which means the Old Lady will have to look elsewhere. Toby Alderweireld of Tottenham Hotspur, Mats Hummels of Bayern Munich, Ruben Dias of Benfica and Stefan Savić of Atletico Madrid have been mentioned.
