Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola is unfazed about his team’s unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga ahead of the winter break.
The Bavarian club have not lost in the German league since October 2012 and are looking to go an entire calendar year without defeat in the Bundesliga with three matches remaining in 2013.
But Guardiola has dismissed the importance of his new club’s 39-game unbeaten run in the Bundesliga, reminding his players the season ‘does not end at the winter break’.
“Statistics like that aren’t important,” the Spaniard said.
“The Bundesliga does not end at the winter break.
“It’s the first time in my career that I have a one-month break during the season and it makes me curious. It’s great for me.
“It is also the first time that he is faced with such cold temperatures for such a sustained period of time but Guardiola is taking that in his stride too.
“It may be odd for us Spaniards but the weather is the weather; everything remains the same.”
Bayern’s next challenge is a trip to Werder Bremen on Saturday and in the lead-up to the match the hosts’ head coach Robin Dutt paid tribute to the job Guardiola has done since he arrived in Germany.
“There can be nothing other than great respect for him and adulation of his work,” Dutt said.
“His achievements at Barcelona were extraordinary and now he has changed the style of play of a treble-winning side in only five months, and they are just as successful.”
