Under 2.5 goals at Birmingham City vs Charlton 8/11 for Wednesday’s Championship contest

Competition: Championship

Market: Under 2.5 goals

Odds: 8/11 @ 888sport

In a real relegation six-pointer at the foot of the Championship, a managerless Birmingham will welcome fellow strugglers Charlton to St. Andrew’s on Wednesday evening.

Starting with the hosts, partying ways with Pep Clotet last week after what has been an abysmal end to the season for Birmingham, the Blues are without a permanent replacement and are in the midst of a real crisis. With many around St. Andrew’s still firmly looking over their shoulder at the drop zone, the Midlands outfit have lost their last four Championship matches on the bounce, including a 2-0 defeat away at Stoke over the weekend. Remarkably without a win to their name since February 11th, a 12-match run across all formats, Birmingham have continued to show some rather glaring issues in the final third. With leading marksman Lukas Jutkiewicz now managing to bag just a single Championship strike in his last eight outings, the Blues have managed to find the net just once in over 350 minutes of action.

As for the visitors, while Birmingham might be a side in the midst of their own worrying run, Charlton aren’t fairing much better. Putting in what was another toothless display in what was could be a crucial 1-0 defeat at home against Reading, Lee Bowey’s side have lost their last three Championship matchups on the bounce and could end Wednesday’s contest back in the drop zone. Unable to build off of their back-to-back victories against Hull and QPR last month, the former Newcastle midfielder will be most concerned by his side’s own issues in front of goal. Drawing another blank at the Valley on Saturday, the Reds have also managed to record just a single second-tier strike over their last four appearances. In a contest that should prove to be a cagey encounter in midweek, we’re backing chances to come at a real premium at St. Andrew’s.
