Competition: Brazil Serie A
Market: Under 2.5 goals
Odds: 8/11 @ 888sport
Two sides who find themselves battling it out at opposite ends of the Serie A table, Atlético Mineiro will make the trip to Chapecoense late on Wednesday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Chapecoense might find themselves still sat rock-bottom of the Serie A table, they should at least be boosted by what was a gritty display over the weekend. Snatching a late point in their 1-1 draw against São Paulo on home soil, it appears that could have just been a very minor boost for Jair Ventura’s men. Opening the midweek fixtures still sat 13 points adrift of safety and appearing to freefall their way back to the second-tier, Verdão have remarkably managed to pick up just a single Serie A win so far this season. However, while they might have also gained a reputation for their worrying issues in the final third, it should be highlighted that Chapecoense have seen their fixtures this season largely be a cagey affair. Despite facing a stern test on Wednesday, the hosts have seen six of their last eight matchups finish with under 2.5 goals.
As for the visitors, while Chapecoense might be rooted to the foot of the table, Atlético Mineiro find themselves battling it out at the other end. Opening up the midweek fixtures holding a commanding 10-point buffer at the top of the standings, Head Coach Cuca would have been hugely relieved to see his side make a welcomed return to winning ways over the weekend. Despite having to settle for three stalemates on the spin when heading into October, Galo were last seen landing a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Internacional on home soil. Smelling a real chance on the road here and without a defeat to their name since the start of August, Atlético Mineiro will be desperate to lay down a marker. However, it is worth highlighting, with three of the last four meetings between Wednesday’s opponents finishing with under 2.5 goals, we’re backing a similar outcome here.
