Two sides who are desperate to end their recent blips, European outsiders Everton and Tottenham will meet at an empty Goodison Park on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while the mood in Everton’s camp might have been at a real high earlier in the year, Carlo Ancelotti’s side have come under some recent scrutiny. Despite many around Goodison Park still dreaming of a late European charge, the former Napoli boss saw his side put in another sluggish display earlier in the week. Eventually having to settle for a dull 0-0 stalemate against relegation outsiders Brighton on Monday night, The Blues missed a real chance on the South Coast. Still struggling to find any stability on either side of the international break, Everton have collected a single point from their last four Premier League matchups. Unable to call upon England international Dominic Calvert-Lewin against The Seagulls last time out, it should also be noted that Friday’s hosts have scored just a pair of strikes on their five-match winless run across all formats.
As for the visitors, throwing away the lead in a worrying fashion last weekend, Tottenham are another Premier League side coming under real pressure. With many around North London questioning Jose Mourinho’s future in the capital, Spurs saw Manchester United eventually breeze past them on Sunday afternoon. Unable to fully bounce back from their shock Europa League departure away at Dinamo Zagreb last month, the one-time Chelsea boss has seen his struggling squad win just one of their last five matchups across all formats. With a string of question marks around Harry Kane’s future with Tottenham, it should also be noted that The Whites have won just a pair of top-flight games on the road since the middle of December. Despite that thrilling League Cup meeting earlier in the year, we’re backing a far more cagey affair at Goodison Park.
