Two sides who are desperately seeking a much-needed response on Friday night, Huddersfield will welcome Nottingham Forest to the John Smith’s Stadium.
Starting with the hosts, partying ways with Danny Cowley after only 10 months in charge over the summer, Huddersfield have rather drastically struggled to find their feet under new boss Carlos Corberán. With many around West Yorkshire fearing that their side could be at the heart of another relegation scrap this time around, the Terriers opened the New Year in what was shocking fashion. Watching League One outfit Rochdale pick up a deserved 1-0 win when they made the trip to the John Smith’s Stadium on EFL Cup duties earlier in the month, Huddersfield have also failed to find any real form since opening the 2020/2021 Championship campaign. Blown away at the hands of last year’s play-off finalists Brentford last weekend, the former Leeds coach has seen his new squad fail to win any of their opening three contests across all formats this season and even more concerning for Corberán, his side are yet to find the net.
As for the visitors, almost sat in an identical position to Huddersfield and with the mood in their camp already at what appears to be a real low, Nottingham Forest are a side flirting with a crisis. Still feeling the effects of their 4-1 defeat at the hands of Millwall when signing off last year’s campaign, a result that shockingly cost them a spot in the play-offs, the Reds have failed to find much to cheer about this time around. Also making their return to competitive action earlier in the month and watching their EFL Cup adventure come to an abrupt end thanks to a 1-0 loss against Barnsley, Forest are coming off the back of back-to-back 2-0 defeats against QPR and Cardiff. Much like Friday’s hosts, Sabri Lamouchi will have his own headache regarding his side’s continued struggles in front of goal. Drawing a blank in all three of their opening contests, it is hard to see anything other than another cagey encounter in West Yorkshire.
