In a battle between two sides who are really seeking some kind of boost this weekend, Newcastle will welcome Brisbane to the McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday morning.
Starting with the hosts, while Newcastle might have enjoyed a much-needed boost at the start of February, The Jets have rather drastically struggled to build off of that momentum. In the midst of what has quickly become an A-League nightmare, Craig Deans’ side find themselves sat rock-bottom of the table and with the mood in their camp at a season-low. Last seen putting in another toothless display at the McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle were hit with a sluggish 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Central Coast Mariners. Managing to muster themselves just a single point from their last four A-League contests, it should also be noted that the Australian strugglers have remarkably failed to win any of their last 13 straight matchups, a run that stems all the way back to February 21st.
As for the visitors, although Brisbane might have enjoyed their own boost last month, The Oranges find themselves in the midst of a very similar rut to Friday’s hosts. Now only just about managing to hang onto their position in the Final Series spots, Head Coach Warren Moon has seen his side muster just a single point from any of their last three A-League matchups. Also, drawing a blank in back-to-back contests for the first time since February, Brisbane have suffered consecutive defeats away from the Dolphin Oval for just the second time this season. In a matchup between two sides really showing a host of issues in the final third and with three of the last four meetings between Friday’s opponents ending with under 2.5 goals, we’re backing a similar outcome when this weekend’s A-League fixtures open up.
Bet: Under 2.5 goals at Newcastle Jets vs Brisbane Road 1/1 for Friday’s A-League contest @ 888sport
