Under 2.5 goals at Sheffield United vs Middlesbrough 11/10 for Saturday’s Championship battle

Competition: Championship

Market: Under 2.5 goals

Odds: 11/10 @ 888sport

Two sides who will open New Year’s Day with the moods in their camp at a real high, Sheffield United will welcome Middlesbrough to Bramall Lane on Saturday lunchtime.

Starting with the hosts, last seen back on December 20th landing a stunning 1-0 win away at leading promotion contenders Fulham, Sheffield United have enjoyed a remarkable rise under Paul Heckingbottom. While the Blades might have endured a nightmare run when losing their Premier League status last summer, they have skyrocketed their way back up the table. Now collecting 13 points from their previous five Championship contests, they have also won each of their previous four second-tier outings on the spin. Likely to still be boosted by that eye-catching win at Craven Cottage last time out, there is no doubt that United will be desperate to get one over on their former boss this weekend. Likewise, it should be noted, Heckingbottom’s squad have seen four of their last five matchups finish with under 2.5 goals.

As for the visitors, last seen earlier in the week snatching what was a stunning last-gasp winner at Blackpool, Middlesbrough are another Championship outfit enjoying a purple patch. In the midst of a stellar rise since bringing in former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder, the Reds find themselves sat in pole position to clinch a play-off spot this season. Finding a way to build off of a 1-0 victory against top-two contenders Bournemouth on December 18th, Boro are unbeaten in their last six Championship outings, recording five wins. Looking to lay down another marker when Wilder makes his return to Bramall Lane on New Year’s Day, the north east outfit have also continued to impress with their displays at the back. Conceding just a single goal in 450 minutes of action, we’re backing what could be another low-scoring affair here.
