In what will be a battle between two sides struggling with form in the final third, Waterford will welcome Cork City to the Regional Sports Centre on Friday night.

Starting with the hosts, putting in another worrying display in their 2-0 defeat away at Derry last weekend, Waterford are still at the heart of a relegation scrap. With a 2-1 win over leading contenders for the drop UCD earlier in the month, Alan Reynolds’ side have managed to pick up just one win since the end of May. With many around the Regional Sports Centre starting to worry about Waterford’s Premier Division status, a huge part of their recent issues has been their form in the final third. Once again failing to find the net on the road last week, Friday’s hosts have also failed to find the net in three of their last four outings.

As for the visitors, much like Friday’s hosts, Cork City also find themselves in the midst of a relegation struggle. Level on points with Waterford and also coming off the back of a lackluster display in their 1-0 loss at home to St. Patrick’s, they too are enduring a sluggish run in the final third. Looking for their first win since the 24th of May, John Caulfield’s men have now managed to record just a single goal in almost 400 minutes of action. Also playing out a torrid display in their 0-0 draw in their last match away at Finn Harps, we’re backing another cagey encounter on Friday.
