With a golden opportunity to make a return to winning ways this weekend, Union Berlin will welcome Koln to the capital on Sunday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, while Union Berlin may have suffered a 2-1 loss away at a high-flying Schalke last weekend, few across Germany would have expected Die Eisernen’s stellar debut Bundesliga campaign. With their sights set on breaking into the top half of the standings, Urs Fischer’s men have won three of their last four contests and have a growing reputation for their form on home soil. Winning each of their last three matches at the Stadion An der Alten Förstere, including a 2-0 win over league leaders Borussia Mönchengladbach last month, Union have also recorded three straight clean sheets in the capital.

As for the visitors, while Union Berlin might be enjoying a stellar maiden Bundesliga campaign, Koln find themselves in a battle at the foot of the table. Despite playing out a 1-1 draw against Augsburg last weekend, the Billy Goats are already sat six points adrift of safety and have now failed to win any of their last six outings, a run that stems back to the 20th of October. Also losing five of those appearances and seen to be one of the leading contenders for the drop this season, Alexander Wehrle’s men have lost their last four matches on the road, a run highlighted by a 3-2 defeat away at lower league Saarbrücken in the DFB Pokal.
