United and Arsenal vying for Benteke
English newspaper Daily Star understands that Manchester United are set to challenge Arsenal for the signing of Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.
The Belgian has seen his name linked with a number of high-profile clubs after impressing in his first Premier League season.
Benteke submitted a transfer request during the summer transfer window, but he was eventually persuade to stay and even signed a new contract at Villa Park.
Nevertheless, Daily Star has suggested that the 22-year-old could be moving clubs as soon as January.
Long-term admirers Arsenal are expected to return for the highly rated forward, with Arsene Wenger desperate to sign another high-profile striker.
Meanwhile, Manchester United boss David Moyes has been impressed by Benteke having watched him in action last Friday as Scotland faced Belgium in a 2014 World Cup qualifier, and could make his interest concrete in January.
After scoring 19 goals in his maiden Premiership season, the Belgium international has already bagged three goals in as many league matches this term.
Gomis talks up summer exit
Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis has all but confirmed that he plans to leave the club at the end of the current campaign.
The highly rated forward was on the verge of joining Newcastle after the Magpies had a bid accepted for his services, but the deal failed to materialize as the player refused to take a pay cut.
Despite being reinstated to the first team set-up, Gomis has revealed that he won’t be signing a contract extension at Stade Gerland.
“I think that today after what has been done and said, especially with me not returning to the economic and sporting project, it is not conceivable to talk about an extension”, Gomis told Canal Football Club.
Bafetimbi Gomis has just one year left on his deal at Satde Gerland, meaning that Lyon will be forced to sell in January if they want to avoid losing the player on a free transfer next summer.
The 28-year-old has spent last four years at Lyon, scoring 50 goals in 145 Ligue 1 appearances for les Gones.
Auxerre starlet in high demand
Auxerre forward Paul-Georges Ntep continues to be linked with France’s top sides, according to Le 10 Sport.
The same source has suggested that Marseille, Lille, Saint Etienne and Lorient have already shown interest in the 21-year-old footballer.
Ntep even received an offer from Qatar in the summer transfer window, but he decided to continue his development in France.
L’Equipe has revealed that the forward is set to be rewarded with a new contract that will contain a release clause of at least €5 million so as to prevent top French clubs from signing the player on the cheap.
The Cameroon-born footballer arrived at Auxerre youth academy in 2009, and he was handed a first team debut during the 2010/2011 season.
He has since made a total of 38 league appearances for the French giants, scoring 10 goals in the process.
