United closing in on Alcantara

Manchester United are to be on the verge of completing the £17 million signing of Spanish sensation Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona, the Daily Mail understands.

The Premier League champions have agreed personal terms of £5m-a-year deal with the 22 year old, to beat the likes of rivals Manchester City and Chelsea to his signature.

However, the deal has not yet been finalised, with discussions between the two clubs set to continue over the weekend.

The Spanish under 21 captain outlined his potential as one of European football’s top talents by scoring a hat-trick in his sides 4-2 win over Italy in the final of the European Championships on Tuesday.

He has struggled to hold down a first team place at the Nou Camp, with Xavi, Andres Ineista and Cesc Faberegas currently ahead of him in the pecking order, yet still made twenty-seven appearances in La Liga last season, scoring two goals.

I am not sure if Tito understands the true state of his team. Xavi, Pique, Iniesta & Pedro are old & tired now, therefore losing a young talent like Thiago is simply calamitous if not gullible. @calebkaka on Twitter

As a Barcelona fan I’m sad to read this as Thiago Alcantara is a brilliant young talent and if not for the bumbling of one Tito Vilanova he would have had to formally ask the club for a transfer. And IF the club decided to sell, it would be for much more money.
That aside because of his desire for first team football, Manchester United’s weakened CMF position, CL football guaranteed and the status of United itself as a winning club and team I can see this deal happening.
As much as it hurts if he does leave FCB I wish him all the best and a sparkling career wherever he plays his football.

PS: Vilanova please tender your resignation as you will continue to weaken my beloved club as you are clueless; this Alcantara debacle being your handiwork.
