United closing in on De Jong deal

AC Milan are ready to accept Manchester United’s offer for midfielder Nigel de Jong, according to the Daily Star.

The 30 year old former Manchester City man is set to be out of contract at the end of the season, and Milan are desperate not to lose him for nothing in the summer.

Since arriving at the San Siro from Eastlands in the summer of 2012, De Jong has racked up sixty-eight appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals.

Internationally, he has eighty caps and was part of the squads that reached the final of the 2010 World Cup, and that finished third in last summer’s tournament in Brazil while his one and only goal for his country came in a 2-1 World Cup qualifying win over Iceland in 2009.

Around a quarter of his international appearances came under Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal, who took charge at Old Trafford following the Netherlands third place play-off victory over Brazil in July.
