United confident of striking Shaw deal

Manchester United are confident they can beat Chelsea in the race to secure the services of Southampton full-back Luke Shaw, according to the Daily Star.

The highly rated defender has been strongly linked with a move away from St Mary’s, with the two aforementioned sides the favourites to get a deal over the line.

With United manager David Moyes failing in his attempts to sign Leighton Baines from his former side Everton, his attention has turned to England U21 international Shaw as a potential replacement Patrice Evra, who is expected to call time on his time with the Red Devils in the summer.

Southampton’s owner Katharina Leibherr has assured Saints’ manager Maurico Pochettino and the club’s fans that none of their key players, such as Shaw, Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez will be moved on.

However, a bid of around £22.5m could be enough to persuade the South Coast club to consider selling.
