United enter chase for Hummels

Manchester United have joined the race to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, according to the Daily Star.

Manager David Moyes is set to be handed £100m to improve a squad that has failed to impress in the opening two months of the season.

The reigning champions, who currently sit in ninth place having lost three of their opening seven games, only managed to bring in midfielder Marouane Fellaini during the summer despite being linked with a host of big names.

Germany international Hummels has a £29.5m release clause in his contract, and has also been linked with a move to Barcelona who themselves failed to land any of their defensive transfer targets in the close season.

The 24 year old has scored 13 times in 155 league appearances for Dortmund since switching from Bayern Munich in January 2008, and is 4/1 to net against Hannover on Saturday afternoon.
