United face wait to sign Hummels

Manchester United may have to wait two years if they want to sign World Cup winning defender Mats Hummels, according to the Daily Star.

The Premier League side were keen to add the Borussia Dortmund man in the summer, as new manager Louis van Gaal rebuilds his squad in an attempt to improve on last season’s seventh place finish.

However, Dortmund refused all approaches for the 25 year old, who scored twice in at this summer’s tournament in Brazil, which ended with the Germans beating Argentina in the final.

United remain interested in securing the centre-back’s services, though they may have to wait until the summer of 2016, by which time he will have just one year remaining on his contract should he not pen a new deal before then.

Hummels could win his thirty-seventh international cap when Germany take on Scotland in their opening Euro 2016 qualifier on Saturday evening.
