Having been linked with him for several years now, Manchester United have finally decided to close the door on the possibility of signing Mario Mandzukic, according to Tuttosport.
United are on the lookout for a striker, and with their long-standing target being completely phased out at Juventus, it seemed like a perfect opportunity and a move that made so much sense. However, the Croatian hasn’t played a single minute of football in Serie A this season and United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is worried about the time potentially needed for him to get back to proper form. Instead, he is keen on adding a player he can use straight away. Quite apart from that, signing the 33-year-old Mandzukic would go against the current transfer strategy of the club, which is to sign only players that can be developed further.
To that end, United have decided to turn their attention from Mandzukic to Erling Haaland. The 19-year-old RB Salzburg man is absolutely on fire this season, with an incredible output of 27 goals from 19 matches in all competitions. However, United will be aware that they are facing strong competition from practically every big club across the top five leagues in Europe.
