United keen on Domenico Berardi; Juve rubbish Diakite rumours

English Premier League giants Manchester United are reportedly interested in Unione Sportiva Sassuolo Calcio teenage starlet Domenico Berardi, according to the general director of the Serie B side, Sky Sports understands.

The club’s general director Nereo Bonato has revealed that Manchester United and Italian giants Juventus have both shown interest in Berardi.

“The interest from Manchester United? The player is followed with great attention by many clubs, including the Red Devils and also Juventus,” Bonato told Sky Sports.

“But there are other Italian and foreign sides who have observed him in recent games.

“For the moment there has been no concrete contact, so we’re thinking about the present and how to develop Berardi in the best way.”

Berardi, 18, has tallied one goal and two assists in two appearances for Serie B table-toppers Sassuolo in 2012-13. He is under contract with the Modena club until 2015 but will probably be sold if a lucrative offer from one of Europe’s top clubs comes in.

“We are open to all options. We’ll see how things are going and how the situation develops,” added Bonato.

“Domenico deserves attention; he has great qualities and he’s showing it.

“He has a contract with us until 2015 and if some big club should come forward we will see what is best for everyone.”

The 18-year-old striker will be in action at the weekend, when Sassuolo play host to F.C. Pro Vercelli 1892 at the Stadio Alberto Braglia on Saturday, September 15.

Sassuolo are 11/1 to beat Pro Vercelli 3-0.

Juve rubbish Diakite rumours

Juventus general director Beppe Moratta has rubbished reports suggesting the Old Lady will attempt to sign Lazio centre-back Modibo Diakite in the January transfer window, Sky Sports reports.

Diakite, 25, has just one year remaining on his current deal with Lazio, and has yet to make a competitive appearance for the Biancazzurri this season.

“We are regularly victims of the most outrageous headlines, many of which are obviously incorrect,” revealed Moratta.

“For example, Diakite is a Lazio player and he won’t be coming to Juventus.

According to reports in Italy, Athletic Bilbao talisman Fernando Llorente will be the top transfer target for the Bianconeri in January.

“We will continue to monitor the most interesting players and in January we will decide whether or not to make a move,” added Moratta.

In other news, Juventus target Stevan Jovetic revealed that he turned down offers from Manchester City and Juventus in the summer, according to ESPN Soccernet.
