Manchester United appear to be leading the chase to sign Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara, the Express understands.
The Spanish under 21 captain, who bagged a first half hat-trick in his sides 4-2 European Championships final victory over Italy on Tuesday, is desperate to find regular first team football having made just fifteen league starts last season.
His former mentor, Pep Guardiola, now at Bayern Munich, is considering making a move though it is looking increasingly likely that Old Trafford will be his next destination.
The 22 year old originally had a staggering release clause of £77million, though that figure has dropped to just £15.4million after he failed to feature in at least sixty per-cent of Barcelona’s games last season.
United have also been linked for Alcantara’s teammate Cesc Fabregas, though Barcelona are yet to receive any offers for him, while a move for Netherlands under 21 midfielder Kevin Strootman has too been mooted.
