United leading race to sign Shaw

The Mail Online understands that Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw.

With Patrice Evra expected to return to France in the summer, United manager David Moyes is on the lookout for a replacement, and Shaw is at the top of his list of transfer targets.

The England international, who this season has become one of the hottest prospects in the Premier League, has also been linked with a move to Chelsea but is understood to favour any move that would guarantee regular first team football.

United currently sit in seventh place in the Premier League, one place above Southampton and three points behind Tottenham Hotspur in sixth.

They travel to Moyes’ former club Everton on Sunday, looking to keep alive their hopes of finishing in the European qualification places, and they can be backed at a price of 9/5 to take all three points.
