Nathan Ake put in a fantastic performance in Bournemouth’s narrow defeat to Manchester United this weekend, but according to Manchester Evening News, United aren’t quite convinced the 23-year-old is the solution to his problems at the back.
The Cherries took the lead through Callum Wilson’s strike in the 11th minute, and it took a goal from Anthony Martial in the 35th and a very late winner by Marcus Rashford to secure the points for United. However, there was no hiding the fact that the visitors’ defending left a lot to be desired.
Despite the late disappointment, Ake was arguably the best player on the pitch throughout the game. He displayed a fine balance between skill on the ball and doing the basics of defending with eight clearances and an 88% pass accuracy. However, what also caught the eye was his sometimes questionable positioning, as he has been known to move into a holding midfield role.
Another thing that might affect the ultimate ending to this particular link is the fact that Chelsea have a buyback clause for Ake.
