United rule out Vidic return

Manchester United have ruled out re-signing centre-back Nemanja Vidic, according to the Daily Star.

The Serbian has been linked with a return to Old Trafford in recent weeks, despite only leaving for Inter Milan in the summer.

He has made just nine appearances so far this season, but looks set to remain at the San Siro for the foreseeable future – news that is sure to disappoint the United faithful.

Despite stringing together a run of six straight wins, Louis van Gaal’s men have struggled defensively and have not had a recognised centre-back pairing since Vidic and Rio Ferdinand moved to pastures new at the end of last season.

Another victory for United at the weekend will see them keep up the pressure on both neighbours Manchester City and league leaders Chelsea.

They travel to Villa Park to face Aston Villa, where the away win can be backed at a price of 4/7.
