Talk Sport are today reporting that Manchester United target Kyriakos Papadopoulos has penned a new deal at Schalke, keeping him at the club until 2016.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been an admirer Papadopoulos for a while now after he impressed when the two sides met in the Champions League back in 2011.
However, it seems as though Ferguson will have to look elsewhere if he wants to bring in a centre-back in the January transfer window, as the Greek international has committed his future to the Bundesliga outfit.
Papadopoulos wants to help bring trophies to the German club and is targeting at least a Champions League spot this campaign.
So it has all but ended the English Premier League clubs hope of signing the 20-year-old in the short term, but it is likely that the Red Devils will keep monitoring his progress.
As we know in modern day football, even when you sign a contract your future is never certain, sometimes it just means that the club can ask for a bigger transfer fee.
Ferguson seems as though he wants a new centre-back due to the huge array of injuries he has and with the likes of Rio Ferdinand entering their final years as a player.
