Manchester United have been credited with interest in Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic before, but the Catalan giants weren’t interested in parting ways with the Croatia international and even if they were, the competition from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus would likely be too strong for the 20-time English champions.
Now, however, things have changed. With the 31-year-old midfielder unhappy about lack of game-time at the Camp Nou, which he felt no need to hide, Barcelona have reportedly decided to let him leave in January, providing there’s a suitable offer on the table.
And according to Sport, United are ready to rekindle their interest as they look to add quality reinforcements throughout their team. Apparently, the negotiations between the clubs are already underway, and the La Liga title holders are demanding in excess of €35 million with their need to balance the books in mind. There’s no real question about United being able to afford Rakitic at that price, but it remains to be seen if they would be willing to pay it for a player of his age.
