There have been rumblings in the past few months surrounding Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera and the situation regarding his current deal, and the swirling rumours have prompted the Premier League giants to activate a clause in the Spaniard’s contract. According to the Mirror this move will keep him in Manchester until 2019, allowing further time to thrash out a new deal that will please both parties.
Herrera’s game time has been relatively sporadic under manager Jose Mourinho, especially following the arrival of summer signing Nemanja Matic. The Spaniard’s versatility has been invaluable however and he was voted Manchester United Player of the Year for last season.
One match that springs to mind regarding the last campaign was his man-marking shutdown of Eden Hazard when the Red Devils played Chelsea, and the 28-year old has excelled in a more defensive role as part of United’s midfield. He also possesses a decent attacking threat too however, contributing a goal and six assists last season, and Mourinho will be glad to have him around for at least one more year.
