(GSM) – Universidad Catolica of Chile beat Argentinian side Colon on penalties after a 5-5 aggregate result to reach the group phase of the Copa Libertadores.

The first leg, played in Santa Fe on January 26, ended in a 3-2 win to Colon. However, the second leg would have the exact opposite outcome.

David Henriquez put the Chilean hosts ahead after 40 minutes but fans at Santiago’s San Carlos de Apoquindo stadium were then silenced as Ivan Moreno y Fabianesi (53rd) and Esteban Fuertes (penalty, 56th) turned things around.

Things soon went down hill for Colon though as Paraguayan Salustino Candia was sent off with a second booking in the 69th minute, and Rodrigo Toloza levelled the score six minutes later.

Argentinian Juan Morales then found the target for 3-2 in the 82nd minute, and as such forced a penalty shoot-out against his compatriots.

In the shoot-out, Universidad were the better team with five converted penalties against three.
