(GSM) – Universidad Católica kept alive their hopes of advancing in the Copa Libertadores with a 2-0 win on Wednesday over Flamengo. The win also secured first place in Group 8 for Chilean rivals Universidad de Chile.
Católica went in front less than two minutes into the game when Damián Díaz put a shot beyond Flamengo goalkeeper Bruno.
The Brazilians were desperate to grab a hold of one of the second-place berths, but they were further foiled just before half-time when Francisco Silva’s strike made it 2-0 to the home side.
Flamengo never could respond, and they are now in danger of being eliminated even if they finish second. They sit below the cutoff line for the top six runners-up with one match left to play.
