(GSM) – Goals in either half by Piero Alva and Gianfranco Labarthe sent Universitario to six points in Copa Libertadores Group 4 on Wednesday with a 2-0 win over Lanús.

The Peruvian side went in front on 18 minutes when Alva split two Lanús defenders before blasting a shot beyond goalkeeper Agustín Marchesín.

The visitors from Argentina, who made it two losses from two games, struggled to get involved in the attack, and the home boys from Lima really took a firm grip on the game, though they couldn’t extend the lead before half-time.

Lanús improved after the interval, but never could find a way past Universitario goalkeeper Raúl Fernández, producing a frustrating effort.

Then, with two minutes left to play, Labarthe cinched the Universitario win with a pinpoint header past Marchesín.

Universitario sit second on goal differential behind Libertad of Paraguay, who they play in a week in Lima. Lanús look to get on the board on the same day when they travel to Bolivia to face bottom side Blooming.
