Unsettled Chamakh talks up French return

Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh has not ruled out a return to his former club Bordeaux.

But, despite an unhappy spell in London, Chamakh does not want to make a decision during the January transfer window.

After initially impressing in Arsene Wenger’s side, the Morocco international lost form and he now finds himself on the bench, behind Robin van Persie in the pecking order.

As a result, a move away from the Emirates Stadium has been touted, and the 27-year-old said it was a possibility.

“I will weigh up the pros and cons,” he told Sud Ouest when discussing a potential return to the Stade Chaban-Delmas.

“If I leave here, I’ll take that possibility into consideration.”

“I always said if I had to return to France, it would be with Bordeaux.”

Even if Chamakh does not return to the nation of his birth, he has said that he will certainly toy with the idea of leaving Arsenal if he continues to find himself out of favour.

“I have the idea that I will finish the season at Arsenal, ” he said.

“But in May and June, I will see things differently. I cannot stay in this situation forever. ”

“I’m 27, I’m a competitor, I want to play, I accept many things here because it works.”

“But I cannot live like this forever. I will make a decision this spring.”

Chamakh enjoyed terrific success during his first spell with les Girondins, with whom he signed as a 16-year-old, leading them to the French title, as well as a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

He joined Arsenal in summer 2010 on a free transfer but has failed to enjoy similar success in England.
