Unsworth keen to keep Barkley

Everton caretaker manager David Unsworth believes that Ross Barkley could become one of the club’s best ever players, according to the Mail Online.

The midfielder hasn’t featured so far this season as he nurses a hamstring injury while in the summer he was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea only for the potential switch to fall through on deadline day.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with a move for the twenty-three year old though Unsworth is keen for him to commit his future to the Merseyside club.

Since breaking into Everton’s first team, Barkley has racked up one hundred and seventy-nine appearances in all competitions, scoring twenty-seven goals.

He has been capped twenty-two times for England, scoring twice and was part of their squad for last summer’s European Championships in France.

Everton slipped into the bottom three following defeat to Arsenal on Sunday and are priced at 16/1 to be relegated.
