Real Madrid have made signing Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig their top defensive priority this summer, according to AS.
Seen as the next big thing in world football when it comes to central defenders at the age of 21, Upamecano has been tracked by a host of clubs across Europe. Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and AC Milan have all been credited with interest at some point, some more than others, but it was recently reported that Real were also ready to join the race. Now it seems they’ve decided for his move to Santiago Bernabeu to happen.
Los Blancos will certainly need to make significant changes to their back line soon, especially in the centre-back department. Captain Sergio Ramos turned 34 a few weeks ago, and the man who has led them to numerous trophies over the last decade has obviously reached the twilight of his career. In the eyes of the club, Upamecano seems a good candidate to be his long-term successor alongside Raphael Varane.
