Competition: World Cup
Market: Uruguay win to nil
Odds: 4/7 @ Bet 365
Jose Gimenez scored a later winner as Uruguay beat Egypt in their first group game and victory over Saudi Arabia on Wednesday will confirm their place in the knockout stages.
While they may have left it late, Óscar Tabárez’s Group A favorites managed to get off to a crucial winning start against an Egypt side minus Moh Salah. Although the likes of Barcelona talisman Luis Suarez may have been surprisingly wasteful in front of goal, The Baby Blues, spearheaded by Suarez and Ligue 1 top scorer Edinson Cavani, will be looking to rack up the goals against a side well and truly out of form. Uruguay also carried on their recent record at the finals that has seen them win five of their last six at the World Cup.
As for Saudi Arabia, despite finishing ahead of the likes of Australia in their qualifying campaign, it could not have been a worst start for Juan Antonio Pizzi’s side. Coming off the back of an embarrassing performance against the hosts Russia in their 5-0 defeat, Saudi Arabia offered nothing and finished the match without registering a single shot at goal. Now with one foot already on the plane home, Pizzi’s boys sit rock bottom of Group A and they have now failed to win any of their last 11 games at the finals.
